We started Momentum Appalachia with one goal in mind - to positively change the face and the political landscape of the land we love. We are a political action committee that financially supports progressive, Democrat women living and running for political office in Appalachia.
For too long the Appalachian region and its people have been let down by the politicians elected to represent them. Their poor leadership and policies have failed to address the economic, social, and environmental challenges our area faces, and as a result, we are left behind. If we are going to move our region forward, we must do so with new, fresh voices and diverse perspectives. If we are going to move our area forward, we must do what we have failed to do for so long: elect strong, driven, solution-oriented women to local and state office.
We know the talents and hearts of the Appalachian woman are nothing short of extraordinary. We've worked with dozens of courageous, determined women, ready to make the change they want to see in their communities. However, the economic distress of the region brings particular challenges. How do you ask someone for money when they are barely getting by themselves? What's more, well funded Republican candidates are raking in dark money from the Koch Brothers and the corporate conservative machine. With so many in our communities living at or below the poverty line and running against deep pocked Republicans, candidates have found raising funds to be intimidating. And that's where you can help.
A donation to Momentum Appalachia is a donation to make sure these brave women receive the financial help they need. A donation to Momentum Appalachia is a donation to these dynamic leaders get elected. A donation to Momentum Appalachia is a donation to move our region forward into a brighter, more prosperous future, for everyone who calls the mountains home.
If you want to have change, of course, the bottom line is that the folk for whom the change is meant must be involved in it.

The road ahead will not be easy. We all know the challenges that lay in our way. A broken local economy. The raging drug crisis. Falling population. But this is exactly why we need new leadership...
